Picnics and Yardsales

This past Friday we got together with our neighbors and had a little cookout. It was especially fun for Emily cause she got to play with the neighbors' girls Ellie and Annabelle, and they had a little blanket tea party. (With Annabelle's toys... :) )

Earlier this week, Emily had her most severe cold yet. It lasted for several days. At least two of the nights, she woke up during the night with her nose all crusted and just couldn't get a good rest. Mommy obliged by letting her rest on my chest. Then, Emily being such a good and giving daughter...gave her cold to Daddy...it put him out for four days...He's still recovering from the after effects. (Next day update: No, we think it's developed into strep throat.)

Today we went yardsale-ing for the first time with Emily Bundle. Normally, I like running the yardsale. I'm not real hot on driving around town for hours on end loading and unloading self, baby, bag, wash, rinse, repeat. Mostly because there's no guarantee that the day will be fruitful. We lucked out today. The first few stops were ok, but they didn't have anything we were especially looking for. I picked up a gift for my dad, (shhhh), a DVD, a few baby clothes, and finally, the jackpot: a pack-n-play ($10) AND an activity table($3) for the girl! As you can see, she loves it. Oh, if you were wondering if she's really standing...Yes. Yes she is. In the past eight days Emily has obtained a limited mobility.

As you can see here, she's standing fully supported on her legs and keeping her balance holding on to the rings there. No, I'm not holding her hand off screen. There are further pictures in her photo album that's currently scrolling. She stays standing for 15-30mins at a time and it's impossible to keep her in one place. There's not exactly crawling going on...more like pivoting on her rump and scooting. It's any day now...

Something else exciting, the reclining highchair is gone. The other day, she put up such a fuss just sitting in it, we did the conversion required to make it a booster seat. She likes it much better. (You'll have to excuse her sleepy look. This was in the middle of her sickness and she's short on sleep.) Of course, it scares the crap out of me and Len when she decides to lean backwards over the seat to look behind her. And what does Emily do when we jump up to catch her? Smile. She smiles and puts on that "Gotcha!" look...*sigh*

While we're on the subject of highchairs and eating. I hope you'll enjoy this: we're trying Emily out on sippy cups. She tried it for the first time today and while there was a bit of coughing and lots of dribbling while she used it for a chew toy, the experience was overall successful. (Next day update: Apparently it was a fluke. Emily will have nothing to do with a sippy cup today...)

Well, I suppose you've gotten enough goodies for an update this time, but here's one last little tidbit: She was just so cute after her bath, I snapped this pic.

There are new photos going in everyday to the slide show on the left, but take a peek at these pics in particular because they won't get rotated. I just got them from my mom's collection of photos. They're from Emily attending her first birthday party, some playtime pics, eating out, etc.
