Weekend Excursion

We received several gift cards for Emily's birthday presents, so naturally we had to make sure they were well spent! That means SHOPPING TRIP!!!

So mom and dad woke up, got some breakfast at IHOP. (Yummy 2x2x2 breakfast) Then, picked up Emily at Gran Gran's where she had spent the night and left the truck for Gran Gran. First we went to Babies R Us on Barret Parkway. We got Emily two new pajamas, some socks, and divided feeding bowls with lids. (Thank you family!)

Then Len gets a little hungry so we decide to go eat at Bugaboo Creek Steakhouse. (Yummy Snowbird Chicken!) If you've never been, they have some decorations in the restaurant that talk and move around. We thought Emily would get a kick out of that, and she did!

And suddenly, Len was curious if there was a store around that sold air-soft rifles. I suggested we try Hobbytown USA because it was right in the same shopping center. Great idea! They have rearranged their store so that one of the larger rooms (previously a gaming room) is now nothing but children's toys. They also have several play tables with Thomas the Tank Engine town sets on them. Emily grabbed a railroad sign in one hand and a James the Tank Engine (yes, I had to look it up) in the other and strolled up and down the aisles. When Dad came looking for us, she just HAD to show him what she had found. It was very cute.

Hobbytown USA also has several railroad models set up on display. Emily liked looking at those too.

Finally we make it to Toys R Us. They had sent us a discount card because Emily was on the Birthday Club list. They gave her a birthday girl crown, a shiny balloon and announced that it was her birthday over the loud speaker. We had some fun shopping around. Dad picked up a NERF gun.* Emily got a bead maze she can pull around and a squishy string ball.

And just for extra fun...Emily took her first picture with a camera herself. I think it's of her finger...but I'm not sure.

* Completely unrelated funny story: Len and I have been discussing getting a firing arm for Len to practice shooting because it is a relaxing recreation for him. I personally don't like the idea of guns in the house, not to mention the expense of ammo, firing range time or possibly locker storage. Len suggested the air-soft rifles as mentioned above so that he could shoot outdoors, close to home and it wouldn't be nearly as dangerous as a real gun. We got to Toys R Us with a HUGE NERF wall. This caught Len's attention. I caught on pretty quickly and jumped right in. "SURE! That's a great idea! This would be totally cool with me if it suits your need." While Len was looking over the NERF display, Emily and I were waiting for him close by. I saw one family come by with a very bored looking dad. Suddenly, something caught his eye and he told his wife "I have to go look at something over here." He walks quickly past us towards the bikes section. The wife calls after him "Oh, you do?" She looks back to the grandmother and the child in her shopping cart and rolls her eyes. Moments later a mom comes down the aisle with 7 y/o daughter by the hand and another bored looking daddy. I only caught the tail end of the conversation but I believe the dad was making an argument for a Wii. He says, "Yes it is. It helps in hand/eye coordination." The mom gives a very dismissive "uh-huh" and continues up the aisle. I look over at Len feeling so happy. The only thing going through my brain is..."I'm glad it's not a real gun."
