One of the days I've dreaded and looked forward to since this child was born..."I can do it myself."We were getting into the car at the library. I put Lizzie down to put Emily into her car seat. She held her little hand out and matter-of-factly stated, "I can do it myself!" With twinges of regret and pride, I cheerfully said, "OK! What a big girl you are!" and stepped back. There she went, climbing up into the car, pulled her little body into the seat and looked at me with a satisfied look. I gave her a little kiss and buckled in the legs, but she fitted and buckled the chest.
I picked up Elizabeth, closed Emily's door and strode around the back of the car with a smile on my lips and a tear lingering in my eye.
